Travis County sheriff's spokeswoman Kristen Dark confirmed to the American-Statesman that two deputies had taken Armstrong to a medical appointment at 3707 South Second St. in South Austin. Dark said she couldn't say why Armstrong had an appointment there because of patient confidentiality laws.
As deputies were escorting Armstrong back to a patrol unit to return her to the Travis County Correctional Complex in Del Valle, Armstrong began running, Dark said. Dark declined to say whether Armstrong had been restrained in any way after leaving the appointment.
Armstrong traveled about a block into a South Austin neighborhood before the deputies found and detained her. Austin police also aided in her capture.

Dark said that Armstrong had remained within their eyesight during the minutes she was out of custody.
She was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center for treatment after the incident.
Armstrong's attorney, Rick Cofer, had no comment.
This wasn't Armstrong's first attempted escape from law enforcement. The Austin yoga instructor fled to Costa Rica with a fake passport in May 2022 after she became a suspect in the shooting death of Wilson, a professional cyclist from San Francisco.

Wilson, who had once dated Armstrong's boyfriend, was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds on May 11, 2022, in an East Austin home on Maple Avenue. She had been visiting Austin to prepare for a race in Waco.
Police said surveillance video showed a dark SUV pull up to the house one minute after Wilson had returned from swimming with Armstrong's boyfriend, Colin Strickland. The vehicle had features that matched the 2012 Jeep Cherokee that Armstrong drove, according to police.
Investigators also said Armstrong owned a 9 mm handgun. Federal authorities working with Costa Rican officials found and arrested Armstrong in a hostel on Santa Teresa Beach in Provincia de Puntarenas about 50 days after she fled the U.S.
