Aki Soga

Aki Soga is the editor of Burlington Free Press. From May 2018 to June 2022, he was the reader engagement editor, and before that, engagement editor/editorial page editor. He was appointed editorial page editor in 2006 after 10 years as business editor. Soga's editorials on open government were a Pulitzer Prize finalist (2012), and also have been recognized with Scripps Howard National Journalism Awards for the First Amendment (winner, 2010, finalist 2008), Society of Professional Journalists First Amendment Award (2011) and the Associated Press Media Editors First Amendment Award (2011). Soga has a bachelor's degree in economics from Kalamazoo (Mich.) College, a master's degree in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He served in the Peace Corps in Sierra Leone. Soga worked at a newspaper and a financial news service in Tokyo before coming to the Free Press in 1991. He has served as Asian American Journalists Association national vice president for print as well as Unity vice president.
