Onsen Ramen shuts doors in Essex Junction after almost two years

Onsen Ramen, a popular eatery in Essex Junction, shut its doors last Friday after nearly two years in business.

The ramen restaurant, which opened at its Pearl Street address in December 2022, was named for the natural Japanese hot springs some which attract snow monkeys − one of which featured in the Onsen Ramen logo.

Onsen Ramen's owners, Perry and Neil Farr, told the Free Press in an email that they closed up shop in Essex Junction to focus on their other restaurant, The Scale, a successful poke bar that opened in Williston in 2018.

"The Scale has grown over the years into a very busy business, and we would like to take the next steps to expanding," Perry Farr wrote.

All Onsen Ramen staff have moved over to The Scale and will maintain the same hours and pay.

This might not be the end for Onsen Ramen, however. The Farrs hinted on Facebook that Onsen Ramen products may hit store shelves in the future, though details of those plans remain murky.

"We have products lined up to offer retail products but are not at a point where we are sharing information publicly," Perry Farr told the Free Press.
