Oscar-winning director Oliver Stone to appear at Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival
Academy Award-winning director Oliver Stone will be in Vermont in August to screen a trio of films at the Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival.
Stone will show and discuss three of his movies – “Platoon,” “Wall Street” and one more to be announced, according to a news release from the festival. The Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival takes place Aug. 21-25.
“Platoon” will be screened Thursday, Aug. 22, at Wilson Hall on the Middlebury College campus. Stone will also take part in a conversation Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Middlebury Inn with Vermont filmmaker Jay Craven, the artistic director for the festival.

A veteran of the Vietnam War, Stone won Oscars for Best Director for the Vietnam-themed 1980s films “Platoon” (which also won Best Picture) and “Born on the Fourth of July.” He also won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for the 1978 film “Midnight Express.” He is also known for films including “JFK,” “Salvador,” “Natural Born Killers” and “Nixon.”
The full schedule for the 10th-anniversary Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival is due to be released on or around July 30, according to the festival’s website. More than 100 feature films and short movies will be screened at locations throughout Middlebury.
