Essex's Tess Adams breaks 37-year-old state record to win discus at New England meet
This year's New England discus champions are both from Vermont.
And one left with a state record, too.
Essex junior Tess Adams broke a 37-year-old Vermont Division I state record in girls discus to claim victory, while South Burlington senior Aidan Lybarger captured the boys discus crown during Saturday's New England high school track and field championships at Wildcat Stadium in Durham, New Hampshire.
Adams launched her best throw of 142, feet 10 inches, to win by more than six feet. The previous record of 142-0 was established in 1987 by another Essex thrower, Kristine Isham. Adams also placed 10th in shot put (37-10.5).
On his first attempt in finals, Lybarger uncorked his winning throw of 175-11, his best distance on the day by more than 10 feet.

And the U-32 4x100 quartet of Mollie Mislak, Adeline Cannella, Maia Pasco, Isabel Moustakas reset their D-II record in 49.38 to place eighth.

Thornton-Sherman, Emmett Johnson, who was seventh in the 1,600 (4:18.35), Daniel Carter and Oliver Johnson teamed up on SJA's 4x400 relay for a seventh-place showing (3:26.84).
